Across the globe, the COVID-19 pandemic has quashed many in-person public and private gatherings, from concerts and festivals to weddings and funerals. In mid-March, it became clear that our spring milestone events — Capstone, Match Day and graduation — could not be held in person. We grappled with how to replace the irreplaceable — nothing quite replaces the magic of gathering in person — and with a hearty dose of tenacity and agility, not to mention alacrity, we orchestrated virtual versions of these events. Despite being separated by distance, our students, faculty, families and loved ones appreciated the ability to connect and celebrate these revered occasions.
